Videographers--Yes or No?

OMG, I'm obsessed with her little half Asian babies. They're so cute!
Last night watching Jon and Kate plus 8, when the babies were watching their parent's wedding video, I started rethinking my decision not to have a videographer. I am so excited about my awesome photographer Mary Basnight (and not just because I know she reads my blog, LOL) but what if my children want to see a movie of Mommy and Daddy's special day?

Especially young ones won't want to flip through an album no matter how pretty it is. The little kids on JK+8 were soooo excited by their parents video, I've started thinking about the video options. We could either have the Father of the Groom record it, but then he will be focused on that and not his son's wedding or we could ask another family member or friend to record it or we could hire someone. Although, because I haven't planned for a videographer, there really isn't any room in the budget for it.

Did you have a videographer? Was it worth it?

i had the same dilemma. when it came down to it, we all wanted some documentation of the weekend. but the budget didn't allow either. the son of a family friend was pretty good with a camcorder so we asked him to do it for us. i'm soooo glad we have it. he even had fun playing around with a video editing program and put it all together for us. of course we paid him a little something but it was nothing like what a professional costs....and the kid got asked to do two weddings after mine!

i think it's a luxury to have a professional videographer...but even if you can just get someone to caputre the moments...it might be worth it. do you have a cousin or family friend how might be willing?

on the other hand....
i have only watched it three or four times....and i look at my wedding album probably once a week....so.....necessity = no.

Hi Sarah! I'm a friend of Ashley's and I've loved looking at your blog! I'm following in your footsteps and marrying at the end of May, but in Florida.

We're getting a videographer - and it was actually higher on my list than a photographer. We're using Scott Hayes out of Kentucky (he did another SMU bride, Kaley(sp?) Kurtz), because I love love love his style. My parents and my fiancee's parents have some shots from their wedding, but I would love to be able to hear my Mom reciting her vows and my Dad talking about how excited he was just before they walked down the aisle. For me, it captures the whole day more clearly than just the photographs. We did have to cut our photographer budget and the level of photography that we wanted... but at some point, I felt like pictures of the day were enough, even if they weren't as artistic as I would've liked.

Thanks for sharing your wedding story with us!
