South Beach Status

We've been on the South Beach Diet now for almost a month now. I thought I would never survive Phase I, the phase where you don't eat sugar or carbs, but we made it. Allen has lost 22 pounds (22 and a half according to him) since the start of the diet and I've lost 9. It's so much harder for women to lose weight!

We both have been going to the gym regularly and eating all the fresh, healthy foods on the South Beach Diet. A typical day starts with an omelet with chopped veggies and coffee sweetened with Splenda (which I already did anyway), then a string cheese stick around 10:00 a.m. For lunch we've been eating salads topped with chicken or salmon (usually from the night before), lite Caesar dressing and chopped tomatoes. You'd think Caesar dressing would be bad, but because its lite, it doesn't have as many calories and because its Caesar it doesn't have much sugar. We have almonds or celery for the afternoon snack and then grilled chicken or salmon, or turkey burgers for dinner. We top it off with a cup of yogurt mixed with sugar free jello mix that we freeze a little bit. It's surprisingly tasty!

It's okay to maintain the diet, although sometimes we both get cravings for french fries, Chinese food or pizza! Luckily Kraft has a line of South Beach foods, like pizza and wraps that help us make it through the cravings or just make it easier to follow the diet, rather than being tempted to go out to eat. We are continually encouraging each other to get through this, which is definitely increasing our successes.

For anyone trying to lose weight for a wedding or for any other goal, I definitely recommend this diet. There really doesn't seem to be anything crazy about it, and I'm learning a lot about food I would've never expected. It's not really saving us money because we are flying through fresh veggies and that's not cheap. LOL.

What is your tried and true weight loss routine?
