Clean Closet Project

We have a deep dark secret.

We are messy and when we have people over, everything gets shoved in our ONE downstairs closet under the stairs so we can pretend like we're tidy. :)

So last weekend, we spring cleaned it up.

So here's the before:

Step 1 - Remove everything from the closet

Step 2 - Sort through the items on your table and determine what really goes back in.

We found:
5 winter coats
6 giant canisters of oatmeal (recipe for oatmeal cookies to follow!)
a 6 pack of light bulbs that don't fit any fixture in our house
1,000 unused cocktail napkins from the wedding
3 coolers
11 reusable grocery bags (mostly from Ukrop's)
4 lunch boxes
2 picnic blankets (I can't remember our last picnic, so why do we have 2?)
2 Costco size bags of pancake mix
1 broken flag pole, 2 flags
stale cereal
Refrigerator shelves

Here's what we put back:
Top shelf - light bulbs and candles
2nd shelf - paper plates, napkins, utensils
3rd shelf - umbrellas, George Foreman grill
4th shelf - grocery bags, lunch bags
5th shelf - cleaning supplies, storage box for tax documents
floor - extra bag of dog food, cooler with picnic blanket inside
back of door - hook for Swiffer

Step 3 - put things back and enjoy

Step 4 - take out the trash and take some donations to the Junior League of Richmond thrift store.

So much better! Allen even went to Home Depot and then wired the closet with an outdoor sensor light that automatically cuts on when you open the door and cuts off 5 seconds after it's closed.

How's your spring cleaning going?
