Pinterest Challenge - Tulle Wreath

This week, Sherry @ Young House Love and Katie @ Bower Power, started their quarterly Pinterest Challenge. I actually did my first Pinterest project last week with my friend Lisa @ Life as a Liberati. We made these tulle holiday wreaths we found here.We are going to work on something else this coming week for the challenge, but I thought I'd share this project as well.

 My inspiration photo

She used an embroidery hoop but I used a wire hanger. I probably should've made the inside circle smaller, mine was 11" in diameter but if I'd done 9" or 10" the tulle would've been a little fluffier.

Here's what you'll need:

  1. 10" embroidery hoop or wire hanger (if you use a hanger, you may want to wrap it in black electrical tape to help it hold its shape and so the white hanger doesn't show through the tulle) - free!
  2. 24 yards of tulle (I used my Hobby Lobby coupon and got it for $4.99 - 40% for a total of $2.99)
  3. Ribbon - I bought a large roll of ribbon because I liked it. - $3.99
  4. Scissors - have on hand
Total Cost -  under $10!

Steps to make your wreath:
  1. unwrap the hanger and shape it into a circle - recruit manly hands if necessary (or struggle with a friend and make crazy faces like Lisa and I did!)
  2. Tape it together with electrical tape to hide the white (if you use a hanger)
  3. Cut 1 foot long strips of tulle or alternate 1 foot with about 8" strips to vary it and make your tulle go farther
  4. Tie each strip of tulle tightly around the hanger until the hanger is covered (leaving a hole the width of your ribbon to hang it up)
  5. I wrapped the ribbon loosely around the wreath and then taped it to our front door (the wreath is REALLY light so no need for a strong wreath hanger)
  6. Enjoy!
my actual wreath in all it's glory!

I'm not really craft but this was super easy.  It looks even cuter with a real camera instead of my iPhone camera. :)

I might even do another one for Valentines Day using some leftover pink tulle from a baby shower this summer. I wonder if I (by I, I mean Allen) could shape the hanger into a heart?
